Kazakhstan reports a 30.2% growth in sales of new vehicles in June this year after a sharp decline in May, Kazinfrom News Agency correspondent reports.

In June, the country sold 16,688 cars and commercial vehicles, more than a previous month’s figure of 12,032. The figure adds to a total of 83,145 vehicles sold across the country in the first half of 2024, a 0.1% year-over-year decline.

With 18,828 vehicles sold, Hyundai comes at the top of the list of vehicle brands with the biggest sales in the reporting period (15.3% year-over-year decline). Coming in second is Kia with a total of 11,520 sales, down 6.9% compared to last year. Chevrolet is the third most popular brand in the country with 7,974 vehicles sold, despite a whopping 63.2% year-over-year decline.

The top 10 popular vehicles in the country also include Chery (6,667; +56,4%), Jac (5,150; +121,9%), Toyota (4,514; +22,3%), Changan (4,214; +78,1%), Haval (4,170; +55,1%), Jetour (3 888) and Geely (3,255; +178%).

Stressing that the sales of new vehicles remain the same as last year, the Kazakhstan Automobile Union warned citizens of uncontrolled deliveries of vehicles through ‘gray’ channels without undergoing checks and certifications, threatening the country’s economic stability and security. Uncontrolled deliveries lead to falsification of documents and obligatory payment and tax evasions, it warned.

To note, Kazakhstan seeks to offer its partners within the EAEU to impose a ban on delivery of vehicles older than seven years. Last year, over 330 thousand vehicles imported from the EAEU countries between 2020/21 were registered in Kazakhstan. Their average age was 17 years.
