According to Karabayev, works are ongoing to reconstruct the Kalbatau-Maikapshagay road and renovate road segments from Karaganda to the village of Botaz.

In a bid to develop the existing road network until 2030, it’s expected to widen the Kyzylorda-Aktobe highway to four lanes as well as build a bypass road of 1st category in Saryagash town, he said.

The Karaganda-Zhezkazgan road is slated for reconstruction starting from 2025, providing a new alternative route to the West Europe-West China international road corridor.

Another major project provides for construction of a new road, connecting Mangistau region’s Beineu and Kyzylorda region’s Sekseul.

Construction of this road spanning 736km is expected to begin in 2027, shortening the distance to Aktau and Kuryk ports as well as Turkmenistan by 900km and improve transport connectivity between southern and western regions, said Karabayev.

Earlier, the Kazakh transport minister announced plans to construct a new river port in East Kazakhstan. If built, the multimodal transit corridor would connect Russia and China through the territory of Kazakhstan.
