Tuberculosis infected nurse worked at children's hospital in Aktobe
A medical worker at the regional multidisciplinary children's hospital has been diagnosed with tuberculosis, Kazinform News Agency reports.
In early 2024, a man from Aktobe who was receiving treatment at a hospital shared on social networks that he received calls from the health center requesting that he undergo tuberculosis tests after an employee was diagnosed with the disease.
According to the Aktobe regional children's hospital, one of their employees was diagnosed with tuberculosis.
“The administration of a multidisciplinary children's hospital has confirmed a diagnosis of tuberculosis in an inpatient employee. The employee, who was hired on December 2023, had undergone a medical examination and had a medical book authorizing employment. In November 2024, the diagnosis of tuberculosis was confirmed. Consequently, the hospital administration has initiated a comprehensive screening program, encompassing all individuals who had contact with the affected individual, including healthcare professionals,” the hospital administration said.
As stipulated by the Aktobe region health department, the examination of 700 children and 55 medical workers is to be conducted. To date, all employees have been thoroughly examined, and the children’s check-up is ongoing.
“Since May, the nurse had been on medical leave. First she was treated for acute respiratory viral infection, then for pneumonia. She worked in the intensive care unit,” the press service of the healthcare department of the Aktobe region reported.
